with the ID settings I posted previously, but given that this was a French version I got off some site, with some patch by Paradox, I decided to edit my own image last night with a few tweaks to the ID settings, and up till now I can confirm that this will get you past the ferry parts crash. I haven't had a problem with the game, so far compared to when it used to freeze a lot.
